Calculus KiSS Elements
Below is a sample of the elements for an activity focused on a single foundational skill — the power rule for taking derivatives. Each KiSS element is designed to encourage reflection, retrieval, and progress — all in just a few minutes a day. These same elements are part of the Level 2 Problem. The Level 1 and Level 2 Similar problems have the same resources, except without the hint. The Level 1 and Level 2 flashcards are in question-answer pairs. Altogether, these elements give students coach students through a daily cognitive workout session.

Where to start?
Students begin their daily cognitive workout by choosing a starting level. They can move between the levels during their daily KiSS activity.

Think first...
Before solving a problem students decide how confident they are. This is a feature of the Level 1, Level 1 Similar, Level 2, and Level 2 Similar problems.
I don't know...
Students choose between several answers, along with an "I don't know" option. No judgment here...not remembering how to do something can be a legitimate and honest response.

Right or Not
Choices give students autonomy to chart out their own path through the daily activity. If they get a problem wrong, they can decide what kind of help they'd like. If they get a problem right, they can decide how what type of brain exercise they'd like next. And there's always the option to finish their workout if they want to.

Here to help...
Helpful resources coach students through their daily KiSS workout.. They can retry a problem they didn't know how to solve after viewing a hint. Another option is to view a handwritten step-by-step solution that walks them through the problem in a way they can relate to.
